I cannot control my students in the classroom, how to remedy it?

All teachers have an ideal model, at the behavioral level, of the group of students we want in our classroom, for some it may be wonderful that they are still and quiet.

But the reality is that boys and girls move, some of us may think that they move too much, that they do not stop talking, that they do not listen to me when the teacher explains, and sometimes that is what we can find. But, What to do if you can't control your students in the classroom?

It is important to bear in mind that there are days and even moments of the day, when practically the entire group of students is more excited than we consider usual. For example, the days before vacation periods, the hours before a very interesting activity or workshop, sudden changes in temperature or even the visit of a police officer who comes to talk to us about driver safety.

On the other hand, we tend to fall into the temptation to think, that just the day when I am most tired or tired, that day that I can't stand it, because just that day is when they are most out of control. And I have to tell you that this thought only leads us to lose more of our ability to control the group and to be more irritable.

All teachers must have the adequate flexibility and empathy necessary to understand the above.

Now I'm going to give you some tips to promote a good climate of respect and harmony in the classroom:

1. It is important to agree on class rules, rules that serve for everyone and that are approved by all and all students. In the same way, there may be consequences, not penalties, when those rules are broken. These rules and consequences must be adapted to the group level.

The rules must be written at the beginning of the course; if not done any time is good to start. And if they are written in positive, much better.

2. The teacher must take the class well prepared, both in content and materials. Remember that the first few minutes are very important, since the curiosity that we provoke there can lead us to a class of success.

3. Be firm and leave clear boundaries, aspects not incompatible with affection and kindness. Trusting you as a teacher is a fundamental premise, feeling capable and unique in this task. Be consistent with what you say and do.

4. Do not let yourself be carried away by anger and fall into screaming and despair. It leads to nothing and you will feel that you have lost, using anger as a weapon. Remember that we are an example for all students.

5. Interrupt the class with a game or simple dynamic, or perhaps with a challenge or curious anecdote, they love to see those other facets in us and so you will continue to earn them. You will have gotten pleasant emotions in them and they will want more from you for being the architect

6. Use non-verbal language and gestures, And they well say that a picture is worth a thousand words: you can agree with the group some sign to ask for silence, to change the task or to announce a surprise activity.

Remember that the classroom must be a safe space for all the people who pass by, and that the captain of the ship, the teacher, the teacher, must work consciously to achieve it and if he believes so he will create it.
